Materia: Elements

Support

Materia is an interactive periodic table for iPhone. This page covers how to find your way around it, how Materia Pro works, and how to reach a person if something is wrong.

Getting started

Materia opens directly into the elements. There is no account, no onboarding, and nothing to configure before you begin.

Choosing a view

The view switcher at the top right moves between Grid, Table, and Orbit. Your place carries over when you switch.

Narrowing what you see

The row of filters above the elements limits any view to All, Metals, Nonmetals, Noble gases, the elements of Life, or common Compounds.

Opening an element

Tap an element to bring it into focus. Its card shows the atomic number, atomic mass, group, period, and a short description. Tap the close button, or anywhere outside the card, to return.

Zooming the table

In Table view, pinch to zoom, double-tap to zoom in on a point, and drag to move around. Double-tap again to return to the full table.

Explain

When an element takes part in a curated explanation, an Explain button appears on its card. Explanations are short, animated walkthroughs of how specific elements behave together — for example, how hydrogen and oxygen form water.

Settings

The gear icon at the top left opens Settings, where you can see your Materia Pro status, restore a previous purchase, and check the app version.

Materia Pro

Materia Pro is a one-time, non-consumable purchase. It is not a subscription: there is nothing to renew and nothing to cancel.

Materia Pro unlocks:

  • Explore in Orbit — the immersive, spatial view of the elements.
  • Full Explain Library — every curated explanation, unlocked.

Everything else in Materia — all 118 elements, Grid, Table, element details, and the explanations included for free — works without Pro.

To buy it, select Orbit in the view switcher or open a locked explanation. The Materia Pro screen appears with the price for your region, and the purchase is completed through the App Store. Pricing is set per App Store region; in the United States, Materia Pro is $4.99. The App Store is always the authority on the current price where you are.

Purchases & restore

Restoring a previous purchase

If you have bought Materia Pro before — on this device or another one — you do not need to buy it again. Restore it in either place:

  • Open Settings (the gear icon) and tap Restore Purchase.
  • On the Materia Pro screen, tap Restore Purchases.

Restoring works when the device is signed in to the same Apple Account used for the original purchase. If no purchase is found, Materia will tell you so rather than charging you again.

If a purchase needs approval

With Ask to Buy, or when a payment method needs confirmation, a purchase can be left pending. Materia unlocks Pro automatically once the purchase is approved — you do not need to buy it a second time.

Refunds

All payments for Materia Pro are processed by Apple, so refunds are handled by Apple rather than by Materia. Requests go through reportaproblem.apple.com.

Accessibility

Materia is built to work with the accessibility features already on your iPhone.

  • VoiceOver. Elements, controls, and explanations carry spoken labels, and locked items announce that they are locked.
  • Dynamic Type. Text scales with your preferred reading size, with element cards scrolling rather than clipping at large sizes.
  • Reduce Motion. With Reduce Motion enabled, Materia turns off its continuous ambient animation and switches spatial transitions for immediate state changes. Nothing becomes unreachable.
  • Haptics. Feedback follows the system setting for system haptics.

Materia uses a dark interface throughout, tuned so element categories stay legible against the background. If something is hard to read or to reach, please tell us — it is treated as a bug.

Contact

Questions, bug reports, and suggestions about the science or the app are all welcome.

Email: A support address will be published here before Materia's App Store release.

When reporting a problem, it helps to include your iPhone model, your iOS version, the Materia version shown in Settings, and what you were doing when it happened.

For anything involving billing, refunds, or your Apple Account, Apple Support is the faster route — Materia has no access to your payment details or purchase history.
